Camerata Ireland’s annual Festival at Clandeboye has come and gone and a new young artist has been crowned Clandeboye Young Musician of the year. Thirteen piano, string and woodwind students came to Clandeboye for the week 22 - 27 august and were tutored in masterclasses by Chee-Yun, violin, Andres Diaz, cello, Karine Lethiec, viola and Michel Lethiec, clarinet. Each worked on a concerto movement throughout the week, hoping to be able to play it with the orchestra at the closing Gala Concert on the Saturday night of the Festival. At the final on the previous night Lynda had played in competition with her fellow finalists Rebecca Cap, piano, and Fiona Kelly, both from Cork. The hour and a half that the judges took to make their decision is indication of just how tough this competition was. The tutors were delighted to be joined by independent adjudicator Dr. Eibhlis Farrell from Dundalk who was not present at any tutoring sessions. Dr Farrell was very impressed with the standard of of playing from the young musicians and thought that any of the three could have been worthy winners. Lynda it was, however and she rose marvellously to the challenge of playing her movement from the Mozart G major Violin Concerto (No. 3) with Camerata Ireland in a concert broadcast by the BBC on Saturday 27 August. Camerata Ireland is delighted to announce that Lynda will be joining them again at the prestigious Waterfront Hall in Belfast on Sunday 2nd October. |
