By Hugh Carslaw, CEO (Joint) Camerata Ireland

The Naantali Festival has been running for 28 years. The very finest musicians from all over the world have performed here including world stars such as Vladimir Askenazy and Anne Sophie Mutter. Visiting Orchestras to the festival have included the English Chamber Orchestra.

Camerata Ireland in front of Naantali churchCello soloist and Festival director Arto Noras heard Camerata Ireland at the Manchester piano Festival in 2005. He immediately invited the orchestra to the festival and the result has been two wonderful opening concerts for this years festival the second of which has been recorded for radio and will be broadcast in the next few weeks.

The main concert hall is a magnificent medieval abbey which seats 1000 people. Both concerts were near sellouts and very well received. We look forward to a return visit.

Yet again it would not have been possible to give these concerts without the support of Culture Ireland. This assistance has proved invaluable in allowing the orchestra to increase it's international profile and perform at major music festivals such as at Naantali.
